Marble

Marble, considered to be one of the most elegant stones, was frequently used by the ancient European and Asian civilizations. It has since adorned homes for centuries and has proven to be classic, practical and stylish. Marble is soft, which makes it easy to carve and cut into unique shapes and designs. In creating a magnificent look of classy artistry and affluent design, home builders have utilized these slabs for in creating elegant, yet functional home interiors.

The frequent use of marble tiles can be attributed to a more practical usage however. In areas and locations where it is important for cleanliness and sanitation, and free of bacteria, allergens and pathogens, marble is preferably used. The use of marble is also prevalent in areas that are known for hot or humid temperatures, since marble tiles provide a refreshingly cool surface.

Marble is ideally suited to the bathroom due to its hygienic qualities and as it comes in a huge range of colours and designs it complements nearly any look. Bathroom design requires a balance between functionality and aesthetic appeal; by moving away from the traditional, classic white ceramic and introducing the warm colours of natural stone, we're redifining the look and feel of bathrooms.

As Marble is quite porous and the fact it can stain quite easily with food and liquids it is not as ideally suited for use in kitchens. Granite or engineered stone (quartz) is a more preferable and practical product for this area of the house.

Caring for your Marble
Marble is a sedimentary stone that is not as hard as granite and needs to be more attentively cared for. Most marble need to be sealed. Because marble is more porous than granite, marble bench tops are the preferred surface for bathroom installations. Occasionally wash marble surfaces with lukewarm water and wipe dry with a clean cloth. Wiping surface with a damp chamois will not leave streaks. Once or twice a year, depending on soil, wash with a mild detergent solution (hand dish-washing detergent and warm water), rinse and wipe dry. Don not leave any bottles of cleansers (eg shampoo, liquid soap) sitting on your marble vanity. It can scratch easy and if cleaned with harsh chemicals can loose its shine.

Please do not shy away from Marble as as it comes in truly beautiful colours and if cared for appropiately will last forever.
