Granite
How granite is formed:
Granite is a stone that was once liquid larva flowing up from the core of the earth. Due to many different mixes of minerals and temperatures granite was formed possessing many beautiful colours and patterns, some with spectacular flowing veins others with very even mottling. The range of granites available is vast with many countries around the world quarrying and processing stone.
Granites journey to us:
Granite blocks the size of a small shipping container are drilled and cut from the side of an old volcanic mountain, then taken to a processing facility often in another country. There the granite is cut into slabs or sheets of 20mm & 30mm thick, the size can vary but average about 3 -3.5 meters long x 1.5 – 2 meters in height. After the granite has been cut to size it is polished through a series of abrasives and bundled together and shipped all over the world. It is then trucked from South East Queensland to us at Whitsunday Marble & Granite ready to be cut, shaped and the edges polished before being installed in its final destination. Quite a journey!
Prices of granite vary due to the Australian dollar value, the distance the stone may have originated from, its availability, accessibility and also the quality. All granite purchased for our clients at Whitsunday Marble & Granite is of the highest quality.
Granite add not only value to your biggest asset – your home – but a style and prestige that never dates, something no other material can offer.
